Project Background
In the last decade, stacks of new erotic independent magazines have been finding their way to bedside tables, with the aim to inspire curiosity and exploration. The Raw Magazine is setting out to subvert sexual stereotypes, whether by challenging censorships; creating space for queer, non-conforming, and female expression; providing readers with honest and relatable depictions of sexuality.
Goals
The goal is to have a curated collection of thought-provoking articles and captivating photographs that shine a spotlight artists who fearlessly challenge societal normals and pushes the boundaries. In a world where the advocacy of sexuality is gaining momentum, The Raw aims to celebrate and explore this powerful and transformative espect of human espression, and create a platform that encouraegs open conversations, fostering an environment where more and more people feel comfortable and empowered to express their own unique perspectives.
Opportunities
Sexuality is a topic that sometimes can be too taboo to talk about, and it is hard to find publications that represent the fluidity of the spectrum in an artistic way.
Solution
The Raw Magazine sets the goal to celebrate all genders, bodies, beauty types, and preferences through design, editorial layout, and art direction.

Typography
Body copy: Proxima Nova, it’s a hybrid of Futura and Akzidenz Grotesk, which combines a geometric appearance with modern proportions. The tall x-height and low contrast strokes provide very good readability even in small font size.
This issue is mainly focused on photography and photographers who are advocates of sexual expression. The featured photographers are: Joanne Leah, The Ljilja, Guy Bourdin, Pretty Puke, Ren Hang, and Jo Ann Callis.
The Raw Magazine First Issue
The magazine is divided into 3 sections: Front of the Book are short interviews of artists, the Features section includes longer stories of how featured artist represent sexuality and fluidity in their work, and Back of the Book features short and interesting articles about trends, news, and events that provide resources to people who are seeking support and allyship.
